Our amazing team are committed to helping others. We take our convictions and turn them into action.
Staywell Derby is led by directors with lived experience of mental ill-health, trauma, crime victims, addiction, and homelessness. As such, we have a unique understanding into the complexities and interactions of these difficulties, and the existing barriers to recovery.
We aim to support Derby’s most vulnerable people by drawing on our experiential knowledge, best-available evidence, and links with existing organisations. Our ethos is proactive, user-led and community-focused. We aim to support people to break downward cycles of mental ill-health, poverty, addiction and crime.
We are currently creating a well-being sanctuary and Well-being Academy that will support individuals build their own well-being and positive coping mechanisms.
Our Staywell Ambassadors will also be running online courses and befriending to support those most in need.
We are always looking to build relationships with existing community groups but also individuals that want to make a difference.

The journey for Staywell Derby CIC started around 10 years ago, by founder and Operations Director Jamie Gratton. It was based around the idea of a Recovery Community Organisation which uses lived experience of those who are in recovery from Addiction to help those with Addiction,
Many things have changed over the last 10 years the biggest change is extending the idea to cover lived experience in a number of other areas, including Mental Health, Domestic Abuse, Homelessness, Trauma and those who have been part of the Criminal Justice System.
The idea has had many names, Debewell, LEXfirst, Our Power and many more, the one thing that has never changed is the idea of the project being Lived Experience Led and the power to bring about change through Lived Experience Support.
In March 2020, we felt that Staywell Derby needed to be able to support those most vulnerable in Derby City, Jamie had already gathered around him the start of what has become the board of Directors.
So we decided that we needed to help out however we can, so with no funding we began to help wherever we could.
Our first stage was to train a few befrienders, run some wellbeing sessions and support online.
On the 28thMay 2020 Staywell Derby became a registered CIC and signed a lease on a building in Derby City Centre.
The Staywell Derby Wellbeing Centre is going to host a café, a Wellbeing Academy and a grassroots hub.
We will be running a number of Lived Experience Led projects from the building.
Since then alot has happened, we have been doing the building up and have obtained funding to set up support groups around mental health, addiction, domestic abuse and trauma just to mention a few.
So watch this space in 2021 as Staywell Derby moves forward.
